Becoming a Vegan has turned into a huge part of my life.
So let's start off by explaining what a vegan is:
Vegan: a person who does not eat or use any animal products.
This means I don't eat meat, dairy, eggs, or any derivative of the three. The only exception for me is honey, which I use occasionally in my tea, and as a face mask.
So, why did I decide to become a vegan. For me meat was never a must have food. I enjoyed a good steak every now and then, however, I was content to go meatless and often did. So when I decided to go vegetarian (which was something I had thought of since I was in high school) it was not a shock to me, although some of my family member's were surprised.
I decided to go vegetarian first, as I liked....or maybe loved... chocolate, yogurt both frozen and non-frozen, and a cheese as sharp as it could be! So I was vegetarian for about 2 months when I decided to watch a documentary by Forks Over Knives. They are a great resource for vegans, find them here.
The documentary completely changed my life. If you're curious you can watch it free on hulu click here. If nothing else it will motivate you to eat more fruits and veggies! {have you ever noticed that every news report about a cancer busting miracle is from a fruit or vegetable?! Increasing your fruits and veggies is a good thing. period. They are a great side to your meat :-)}
After watching the documentary I have also read The China Study by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. I have read the beauty detox by Kimberly Snyder and also done lots of reading on the subject. The two books I have mentioned include research, and lots of it. Scientific research published in popular journals, that are peer reviewed. If you are looking for more information I recommend those two books.
I also like the website Vegetarian Times. It is very helpful and has great recipes!!
So fork's up my friends.
I will be sharing recipes and home remedies that I use as part of my choice to be a vegan and live as an ambassador to eat and live friendly to all living things and our environment.

Wow, I'm so proud of you! I have been a vegetarian for going on 16 years, and veganism is something I've tried and would continue ideally, but I haven't been able to sustain that lifestyle. You're an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lauren!! Sorry it took me forever to reply to this! I've found that my body definetly does not like dairy, especially after being off it for a while! So it makes it easier for me. I loved cheeses and thought it would be hard for me, but I'm surprisingly uninterested in dairy now! Not even the vegan versions. If I could lower my bread and coconut milk ice cream cravings that would be amazing ;)
